These easy Pepperoni Rolls feature a fluffy, tender bread dough stuffed with classic mozzarella cheese and pepperoni. Perfect as a snack or appetizer, they come together quickly and bake up golden and delicious, with a hint of Italian seasoning for extra flavor.

Ingredients

Dough and Filling

  • 16 ounces frozen bread dough, thawed (thaw according to package directions)
  • 16 slices pepperoni (divided use)
  • 4 slices mozzarella cheese, cut into 4ths (divided use)
  • ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning (divided use)

Egg Wash

  • 1 large egg, well beaten
  • Splash of water

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 400°F (204°C). Line a large sheet tray with parchment paper and set aside for easy cleanup and to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare Dough: Place the thawed bread dough on a clean work surface. Cut the dough into 8 equal parts to create individual rolls.
  3. Shape Dough: Flatten each piece of dough into a roughly 4×4-inch diameter circle using your hands, creating a flat surface for the filling.
  4. Add Filling: Place 2 slices of pepperoni in the center of each flattened dough piece followed by 2 mozzarella cheese pieces. Sprinkle the cheese lightly with Italian seasoning for enhanced flavor.
  5. Roll and Seal: Fold the two outer edges of the dough over the filling, then tightly roll each piece, pinching the seams together until fully sealed to keep the filling inside while baking.
  6. Arrange Rolls: Place each roll seam side down on the prepared sheet tray, ensuring rolls do not touch to allow even cooking and browning.
  7. Apply Egg Wash: In a small bowl, whisk together the beaten egg with a splash of water. Brush this egg wash lightly over the exposed dough surfaces to help achieve a shiny, golden crust.
  8. Bake: Bake the pepperoni rolls in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until they have turned golden brown and cooked through.
  9. Cool and Serve: Allow rolls to cool on the tray for about 5 minutes. Serve warm with pizza sauce or marinara for dipping, if desired.

Notes

  • For a cheesier filling, increase the amount of mozzarella slices inside the rolls.
  • You can substitute Italian seasoning with dried oregano or basil based on your preference.
  • Ensure seams are pinched tightly to prevent filling from leaking during baking.
  • These rolls freeze well; bake from frozen adding additional baking time.
  • Serve with marinara or pizza sauce for a classic dipping experience.
